Quilling Bird Cards
The art of quilling has been around for centuries. Originating in ancient Egypt, quilling has persevered through time, most notably making its mark throughout the eastern world. During the Renaissance, nuns and monks would roll gold-gilded paper to adorn religious objects, mimicking costly gold filigree. In later years, quilling continued to be practiced throughout Europe as it caught on as a leisurely activity for affluent women.
The name quilling comes from the origin of the art; birds’ feathers, or quills, were used to coil the strips of paper around. Today, quilling is still enjoyed throughout the world as an art form and hobby.
Quilling Card, rooted in Vietnam, has been incredibly fortunate to assemble a team of women who have become passionate about the art of quilling. All of our cards are handcrafted, every card taking one hour to complete. Each artist is assigned one design for the most efficient workflow, so she can get to know the design and create a consistency in her work and our final product.
All cards are 6″ x 6″ and are packed with own individual envelopes.

Paper Quilling a Bird

"Paper quilling a bird is fun and easy! This card is perfect for Valentine’s Day or a sweet note for a loved one. This bird is designed to be cut from an SVG file out of Bazzil card stock, on your electronic cutting machine. When you CIY (cut-it-yourself), there is no rat’s nest of supplies left over. The strips are thicker and wider than is typically used by most quillers, so it’s easier to handle. In fact, I used a crochet hook rather than my usual quilling needle to make my coils! Watch the assembly tutorial video on YouTube to see just how easy it is to put together. I also show many other paper crafting tips along the way."

Quilled Bird Designs
Here's a card I made that features a Jacobean fellow, inspired by a crewelwork design. I seem to be on a roll with good luck cardslately.
The textured background was the cover of a museum brochure originally - I wish I had an unlimited supply; love it! After doing a run of marriage certificates and wedding invitations in subtle colors, I enjoyed using such vivid shades of quilling paper.
Same goes for this little parrot. Whimsical and bright, I made him as part of a collection of baby animals to go on a frame for one of our nephews. Now that I'm taking such a close look, I see he kind of looks like he's tip-toeing along the branch, ha!
If you're new here and would like to see a recap of some other birds I've quilled, visit Donaville Herrick's beautiful new site, Dearest Nature [no longer available], where she kindly featured several of my feathered friends earlier this week.
If you've quilled a bird (or even a flock!) you'd like to share with everyone, I hope you'll post a link in the comments section.

He asked with resentment in his voice - Of course, who do you take me for - I assured him and approached him, gently kissed.
