The Takeaway: The Flex Force Recycler 21466is a highly developed and extremely efficient battery mower that cuts an astonishingly large piece of grass on a single charge. Users switching over from gas-engine equipment won’t be put off by a lack of power thanks to its run time and ability to mow quickly.

Weight: 80.4 lb, with a 6-Ah battery

Genuine innovation in lawn mowers is rare these days. But Toro’s engineers have packed it into the Flex Force 21466. It’s as highly developed a mower as we’ve seen, combining the best time-tested features of a traditional steel-deck, gas-engine machine with the innovation of the battery-powered variety and adding some surprising features.

Trevor Raab

First, our recent test showed it to be an astonishingly efficient mower. Powered by a single 60-volt, 6-Ah lithium-ion battery, it cut—on one charge—13,524 square feet of grass. That’s more square feet per battery amp hour than anything else in the self-propelled category. To do that, Toro needed a few things. First, of course, it built a high-quality battery and circuitry that helps the battery communicate with the motor in managing heat, maintaining current flow, and optimizing run time, as demonstrated in its cut area per amp hour of battery. Second, it installed a motor that’s efficient and up to the job—a brushless design that runs on three-phase power, the same type that makes commercial motors more efficient than the single-phase kind you find around your house in fans, in your refrigerator, or that lift and lower your garage door. The motor adapts to load, increasing rotations per minute where the grass is tall and thick and and throttling back, you might say, where it’s thin and short.

The third leg of the efficiency triangle comes into play with a vented deck and an “Atomic” blade designed to work with it. According to Toro, air moves in through a scoop on the top of the deck.

Trevor Raab

Then the air moves under the deck, and as the blade spins it produces a vortex to suspend clippings and stand the grass straight up for a neat and crisp cut. It would take a sophisticated engineering chamber analogous to what automakers use to track air movement in order for us to fully verify that the Vortex airflow system works in exactly that way. Lacking something so sophisticated, we can say that the Flex Force delivers both a neat mulching cut and bags well. Given that, and its high ratio of cut area to battery amp hour, we’re inclined to think that Toro’s engineers got it right.

Other features are welcome here, too, such as a traditional steel deck without the plastic bolt-on nose so common on cheaper mowers. Yes, the plastic nose cuts cost and weight, but we’re not big fans of it because it’s inherently less durable than a deck formed out of one piece of steel. Also, the mower uses Toro well-regarded rear-wheel-drive Personal Pace system. The farther you push the handle down, the faster the mower goes. We found the system works best for long, straight runs and sweeping curves. It’s less effective for intricate mowing where you’re constantly pushing forward and pulling back. To cut those details with this mower, you might as well not engage the drive system and just push the mower manually. For the average lawn, this is only a few minutes of work anyway.Save the drive system for the broad areas of the lawn.

Trevor Raab

Trevor Raab

Knowing a good thing from previous successful mower designs, Toro has declined to tinker with what already works. The mower is equipped with a stout pulley-drive transmission and 11-inch-diameter rear wheels that take ruts in stride.

In short, this is a great mower. After extensive testing on normal-height grass of five to six inches, mowing uphill and downhill, sidehill, mulching, and bagging, as well as plunging the mower into knee-deep weeds and taking several passes through our test gully, we’ve given it a thorough work out. And after that, we had no choice but to present it with an Editors’ Choice award.

Toro Audio Rage Micro Amps Review (MR2, MRx2, MRx4)

I have been away from this site and others like it for a few years now. I have recently found the time to reengage into some things I want to do, and rebuilding the setup in my truck was high on that list. I have been shopping around for a few months now for new amps with the specific requirements of size and cost as my 2 biggest factors and of course quality but I think that's a given. I also needed to be able to have 6 active channels for a 3 way front stage plus a separate channel to support sub duties for a total of 7 channels minimum. My size constraint is driven by the fact that the vehicle is a regular cab Cheverolet Silverado, so space is at a minimum.

I was unable to find something I could commit to until last week when I viewed a video of a new amp that caught my eye. The video was of a new amp from a company called Toro Tech or Toro Audio, the company is brand new and is structured to only sell in online marketplaces like Amazon. Toro also offers full size amps as well, however it specifically was the comapnies micro amps that met my requirements for size and cost as well as being available in a 4 channel (MRx4), 2 channel (MRx2) and mono block (MR2) for a total of seven channels. Here is the link to the video from Dereck Williston, better known as BigDWiz, from his site at oldschoolstereo.com.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b9KSVhMdE10

After watching the video he posted and seeing the performance vs. cost as well as size I figured I would take a chance on a new amp company. I purchased these amps via normal retails prices on Amazon, so before anyone asks this review was not funded or supported by the manufacturer. I purchased all 3 amps I am reviewing at the same time from Amazon for a total of 228.93 delivered, suggested retail of all 3 amps on Toro Audio's website is 599.85. I am not sure if we will see a price increase, however I was very happy with what i paid.

This may be a great time to say that i am not an expert on amplifier design, i am just a consumer that has been playing with amps for 25+ years. My review will be my opinion on things like asthetics, usability and functionality. I do not have the ability to measure output or give technical results, I just thought some might appreciate an enthusiast level review of something new.

Here are some basic images of what came out of the box from Amazon, even these boxes are tiny for an amp.

The boxes are so small that even the manual doesn't fit, it would have been nice to have the manual match the box size so it didn't have a fold in it.

Contents are pretty basic, each box contains an amp, a speaker wire harness and four mounting screws and an allen wrench.

Each unit has its own crossover, I will be covering this more in depth in the future. I think the ability is here to do a full active system, however I will not say that for certain until i can review the features more in depth. I plan on running a seperate DSP so it was not a deciding factor for me prior to purchase.

    MR2 Mono block crossover details

    MRx2 2 channel crossover details

    MRx4 4 channel crossover details

All 3 amps have RCA inputs and crossover settings on one end and speaker and power connections on the other end.

All 3 amps have 8 gauge power and ground with no built-in fusing and 18 gauge speaker wire output. The MR2 manual recommends merging the 2 18 gauge outputs of the positive side and the 2 18 gauge outputs of the negative side so that you get the equivalent of a 12 gauge wire. My guess is they did this to allow them to use the same speaker harness for both the mono block and the 2 channel. I would have liked to see connections here instead of a pigtail, 2 18 guage wires seems a bit small for an amp rated at 500x1 @ 1 ohm.

You can see here that the 2 channel and the mono block share the same layout for power/ground and speaker output.

The 4 channel is very similar with a 4 channel plug in place of the 2 channel plug.

Here's a good size reference, the amp is barely bigger than a dollar bill.

Total length is right at 7.5", interestingly Toro lists the length at 5.8".

    Width was right at 3.25".

    Height was right at 1.7"

I put all 3 amps on the scale just out of curiosity, they were all right about 25 oz.

Overall my first impressions are good. I think the amps are good looking, they have a brushed metal finish that is very dark. I think they are classy looking and would look good in most automotive interiors. I don't love the speaker connections and the lack of fusing, however I recognize that both of these are are required to get the amp as physically small as it is. I am excited to get a chance to fire them up in the coming weeks and get a better feel for their performance.

Here are the hard numbers for anyone that is interested.

    MR2 Mono
    4ohm - 230W X 1
    2ohm - 320W X 1
    1ohm - 500W X 1

    MRx2 2 channel
    4ohm - 150W X 2
    2ohm - 250W X 2
    4ohm Bridged - 500 X 1

    MRx4
    4ohm - 80W X 4
    2ohm - 130W X 4
    4ohm Bridged - 260 X 2

Other than the fact that it took almost…

Other than the fact that it took almost 5 months to get issued my refund which was supposted to be cash but was given store credit by mistake, and after 3 months of not hearing from anyone not at least given my money back I was owed as a courtesy for waiting so long and still being forced to accept store credit, I was also criticized for using the toro.support email address instead of thr toro.service email in my desperation to hrar back from the company after 3 months of no responses from anything, including a phone number that does nothijg but call a 3rd party who tells you to use the email address they weren't responding too.

We are disappointed this customer had a bad experience with our returns department. While we do not feel it prudent to publicly outline why this happened, we did our best make sense and resolve the issue given the special circumstances surrounding the reason for the multiple exchanges for different products purchased on different websites that made it very difficult to issue a cash refund and store credit was the only option.

My husband is a true DeVoe bass head

My husband is a true DeVoe bass head! I introduced him to Toro a year ago and he purchased a 12s force with an R5 amp then bought another set. When I drive down the street playing the radio no one ever believes that's only a 12 beating in the back of our QX4. So in turn I decided to treat myself by buying 4, 10 fierce and a r5 amp to go with the r5 I all ready have. I can't wait to have an installed and see people's reaction. Although they're just becoming known these speakers are put together with great quality and there's a staff member at Toro by the name of Jeremy great customer service if ever you have a problem that's the guy to look to.

Thank you!!!
