Elk hunters – Don’t Shoot a Moose! Moose continue to expand their range through out the western states including Oregon. A resident population of 50-60 moose now occupies portions of the Walla Walla and Wenaha Wildlife Management Units north of Elgin. Moose are also frequently sighted in adjacent management units particularly the Sled Springs, Chesnimnus, Snake River, Imnaha and Pine Creek Wildlife Management Units. Moose are generally larger than elk and vary in color from dark brown to black; nevertheless, moose are occasionally mistaken for other big game species, particularly elk. There are no hunts for moose, but moose occur where there are elk hunts. ODFW is reminding hunters to be sure of their target.
Elk Hoof Disease
ODFW is asking hunters to report limping elk or animals with abnormal hooves. Report sightings to the ODFW’s elk hoof disease online reporting page http://www.dfw.state.or.us/wildlife/health_program/elk_hoof_disease/or call or email ODFW’s Wildlife Health Lab (1-866-968-2600 / [email protected]). Hoof Disease can be caused by a bacterial infection causing severe lameness in elk resulting in deformed, overgrown, infected, or sloughed hooves. Hunters finding hoof abnormalities in their harvested animals are asked to take pictures and save all hooves of elk with hoof deformities. Hoof disease does not affect the meat of elk harvested by hunters and poses no risk to human health. However, lame elk may be in poorer body condition and appear thin.
General Season Antlerless Elk Damage
Due to chronic elk damage and increasing private land elk populations, ODFW is piloting a General Season Antlerless Elk Damage Tag. This over-the-counter tag is valid within any of the areas and time periods detailed below. Similar to other general seasons and controlled elk hunts, these tags are a hunter’s only elk hunting opportunity for the year, however, there is no tag sale deadline for these tags. These hunts are a tool for hunters and landowners to directly work together to reduce elk damage. The hunt areas are nearly 100% private land and largely agricultural lands. Elk numbers are highly variable within the hunt area as many of the areas are designated as elk de-emphasis areas. Do not purchase this tag unless you already have access to a place to hunt. ODFW staff will not be able to assist you with finding a place to hunt.

New Hunts for Oregon’s Blackpowder Bulls
By Gary Lewis

This fall, a few of Oregon's muzzleloader hunters will grab their long-barreled rifles and sling their ‘possibles' bags in pursuit of Columbia whitetails in the North Bank Habitat Area and for elk along the south coast. Both hunts represent a unique opportunity.
New Muzzleloader Elk Hunt
According to District Wildlife Biologist Stuart Love, the Tioga Unit elk herd is managed for bull escapement and for a specific herd population count. The population numbers are on track, but the number of bulls is above management objective. For this reason, the muzzleloader hunt, which otherwise would be for an antlerless elk, allows a hunter the opportunity to take either a cow elk or a three-point or bigger bull.
The Tioga Unit is divided into three parts for specific antlerless hunts that are divided among rifle hunters, bowhunters and muzzleloaders. Each year, the weapons restrictions rotates. What was last year a rifle hunt, will next year be an archery hunt and the year after that, a muzzleloader hunt. This year's muzzleloader hunt No. 224M takes place in the Sitkum section.
"The Tioga Unit has been over the bull management objective." Love said. "We're leaving a little opportunity on the table. To take advantage of that, we change the bag limit during the muzzleloader season to allow a bull in the bag limit. That means we take a few more bulls out of the area. Next year we take a few more bulls out of Lake Creek."
"The opportunity to take a bull will be pretty good," Love said. "Scouting is going to be very important. These are Roosevelt elk and Roosevelt elk don't have very big home ranges. If you find larger bulls in an area, the chances are, they'll still be there during the season."
This area is comprised of 35% public lands. It is important to get maps that show public and private boundaries and check with private timber companies to make sure that they allow public access.
To start, Love recommends the Oregon State Forestry Coos Forest Protection District map, available through the Oregon Department of Forestry. These maps don't show topographic information, so the best bet is to narrow down the hunt area then get the USGS topographic maps that show the detail.
An estimated 75 tags were available this year. Love, who works out of the Charleston ODFW office, expects that this muzzleloader hunt rotation will become more popular over the next few years.
If you didn't draw an elk tag this year, you've got one more preference point to help in next year's drawing. And plenty of time to scout.

Of course not. She herself suggested, because she is fat and no one was friends with her. -And then.
RV Sales of Oregon 1992 Tioga MontaraHank exhaled and rested his ass on the rocks. They looked at each other in silence, breathing heavily, then both neighed. Then for some time they lay on the warm stones like three lizards.

The end of the lesson is announced by the grades for the test at the beginning. I have 2, I was not surprised. Anna Pavlovna said to retake after the 6th lesson. Two more lessons passed.
