what to know before you tune your tdi

Im not tryin to be a scarecrow in the field of performance, here to scare away performance enthusiasts, no. I just dont want anyone to mod their diesel and have issues because of lack of awareness. I have a little knowledge that has taken me a long way, im happy to share, ive done so in my posts. I dont know 1/2 of nothin though, so do your own research and draw your own conclusions. I just dont want to see in a post somewhere that a car is broke down, and problems arose from runing a tune, and im the culprit to blame all your problems on cuz i advocate to mod cars and have good results doing so.
this wont be accepted, i do lots of research, install all my own parts, do all my maintenance, and in general i have a pretty good grasp of how this tuned cars runs, and shit breaks!
i will continue to give info/knowledge as i get/find it, i and all of us would appreciate it if others chime in too.
If you are not willing to become a mechanic, maybe the best thing for you is to stay stock. It takes alot of time to mod a car, i would not pay a shop for that time, nor want someone else's hands on my car that much, thats my job! Its an attitude a mad modder has, if this is not you, you may just want to stay stock, if you like to have a wrench in your hand, or a lap top to tune with, or both, modding may be a good hobby for you, if adding a trans oil cooler, engine oil cooler or removing a cp4.2 or a set of injectors sounds impossibly challenging, then a moded diesel may not be for you
i think it should be for everyone, its just too damn fun.

I have a few comments on APR. As one of the very few people around here who have the APR tune.
The good thing about the APR tune is that it is 1 program which includes DSG torque limit bypasses. It is pretty close to most other stage 1 tunes, and costs about the same. The selling point with APR is the not needing the DSG flash.

Recently while thinking to myself how they did this without ever touching the DSG software I came to realize that they must of figured out how to alter the communications between the DSG controller and ECU. That in my mind is a bad thing that will eventually lead to a failure.
Actually going in to the DSG and raising the clutch pressure, and smoothing out the shift points is better. (Malone)

APR is ok for people who want to chip it and call it quits for power enhancements.

I talked to Mark Malone recently and he said he has overwritten a few APR ECU's so far from unhappy customers. He is a friendly guy with excellent customer service. That was something I never saw while contacting APR.
