The greatest Cadillac’s once sprouted grand fins and taillights inspired by the Space Age. Today, the great Cadillac CTS-V may not look like a rocket, but it sure as heck moves like one - Edmunds

Acceleration

Wolf under a sheep’s skin is the perfect idiom for the Cadillac CTS-V. With its supercharged engine, the CTS-V can sprint to 60 mph from standstill in just seconds. It has sport car shaming power and practicality of a family sedan, the biggest issue to find a road long enough to devour it. Launch Control manages tire spin to optimize full-throttle acceleration from a standing start and it tops out at mph.

Ride and Handling

The Cadillac CTS-V offers excellent driving dynamics balanced with the luxurious and refined cabin. Its design is honed at the infamous Nurburgring track. The suspension and chassis complement the supercharged engine and provides the racing capability. CTS-V features a multilink MacPherson in the front and five-link independent suspension in the rear which achieves track performance but feels bumpy as an everyday driver. During aggressive cornering, the electronic Limited-Slip Differential automatically sends power to the rear wheels for optimum traction and faster exit speed.

The  CTS-V is based on GM’s Alpha platform which underpins the ATS and the Camaro. Third generation Magnetic ride control reads the road thousand time per second and independently control all the four dampers for maximum stability. The ZF sourced electric power steering is precise with immediate response. CTS-V comes with the exclusive Performance Traction Management derived from the Dpvii racecar features 5 drive modes(Wet, Dry, Sport 1, Sport 2 and Race ) for the track. You can adjust the different level of power delivery, traction control, and steering sensitivity.

Braking

The stopping power of the CTS-V is managed by the massive racing-inspired six-piston front, four-piston rear, fixed –caliper Brembo brakes with vented rotors. The pedal feel is firm and inspires unmatched confidence while cornering enthusiastically. The Brembo brake system provides durability, consistency and the capability for track-day performance.  Emergency braking only requires feet’s to stop which is excellent for a luxury sedan.

Seating and Comfort

The inside of the Cadillac CTS-V is handcrafted with performance-oriented execution. Its cabin is large and comfortable yet imparts a sporty feeling for pure exhilaration. It is no more your grandfather’s caddy with soft and cushy seats instead the optional Recaro racing is truly derived from the racetrack. An available suede microfiber steering wheel and shift knob complement the seating.

The way power adjustable standard seats are exceptionally comfortable with ample amount of bolstering. They are wide, deep but not too soft which makes them perfect for long hours in the cabin. The rear seats are also comfortable with snug toe room but wide knee room. The sloping roofline and thick pillars make limited headroom for taller individuals.

Cadillac CTS-V Competition

/10

BMW M5 Sedan

The BMW M5 is the most popular sports sedan in this segment because of its dynamic performance and high quality interior. Between the CTS-V and M5, the Bimmer has better engine options and pinpoint handling. The 5 series is also ahead in terms of passenger space and cargo capacity. The 5 Series is a better car overall, but it costs thousands of dollars more than the CTS. If you can afford it, it’s worth the splurge.

Mercedes E63 S Sedan

Equipped with upscale materials, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class cabin is most pleasant in the class. The E-Class' infotainment includes a splendid inch screen and very intuitive. You can get this Benz in a variety of body styles. It offers more spacious rear seats than the CTS- V.The E-Class has composed handling around corners, yet comes up short to the sporty character of CTS-V. The E class starts around which is heck cheaper than the CTS-V.

Lexus GS F Sedan

Like the CTS V, the GS F is the high performance variant of the GS sedan. It is powered by a liter V8 which produces hp and pound feet of torque. The engine is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission and power is routed to the rear wheels. The Cadillac CTS-V is far ahead in terms of performance and tech features.

Cadillac CTS-V Final Verdict

The Cadillac CTS-V with hp V8 engine has got some performance which is rivaled by few cars. The design has handsome curves and angles with large vertical LED lights and trapezoidal exhaust ports. It has a long list of standard features with a comfortable ride in spite of sophisticated suspension. Its cabin is well put together like some of its rivals. The Cadillac CTS-V is a good alternative to some of its German competitors.

What's New for the Cadillac CTS-V?

Luxury sedans are the cream of the crop when it comes to automobiles. Cadillac has been at the forefront of this movement for many years and is no different. The all-new Cadillac CTS-V is a beast of a vehicle, and it's coming with a few extra updates for the new year. Some of the changes for this third-generation sedan include a black-chrome grille. This grille comes equipped with dark grillettes for a mean look. On the other hand, the vehicle will be adding Recaro performance seats. Cadillac has decided to bring in two new exterior paints such as vector-blue metallic and phantom-gray metallic. The sedan's CTS-V Championship Edition package will also be deleted for Advanced technology courses through CTS-V's veins. This includes Bose CenterPoint premium audio, 4G LTE Wi-Fi, a rear-camera mirror and a performance- data recorder. In addition to that, this vehicle provides a inch infotainment center as well as wireless charging.

The Cadillac CTS-V will come with an impressive engine. This vehicle is built for high performance thanks to its liter V8. This particular V8 engine will produce upward of horsepower. Zero to 60 mph comes in the flash of seconds. There is also pound-feet of torque. This supercharged sedan can be used perfectly as a daily driver. The CTS-V's magnesium-paddle shifters are connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission, which delivers precise shifts. Ultimate precision and control is what drivers will receive when behind the wheel. Thanks to Magnetic Ride Control and performance-traction management, this vehicle will grip the pavement while exhibiting comfortable stroll. When it comes to cabins, few luxury sedans can offer what Cadillac has done. There are six individual blends of semi-aniline leather, including light platinum/jet black as well as jet black/saffron accents. This is a driver-centric cabin that's centered around refined materials and detailed finishes. Some of the highlights include a thick-rim steering wheel, way adjustable front seats, carbon-fiber trim and sueded microfiber.

Cadillac CTS-V Expert Review

Scott Burgess

New for

The Cadillac CTS-V adds a new Carbon Black Sport package that includes black molding around the windows, dark wheels and an optional carbon fiber spoiler and splitter. There's a new rear camera mirror that uses a high definition screen to show what's approaching the CTS-V if you've got back-seat passengers blocking rear visibility. Cadillac's infotainment system has been updated to better integrate a smartphone with a suite of apps and a Teen Driver program can track a driver's speed, distance traveled and whether any safety systems were activated.

Vehicle Summary

The CTS-V is the midsize rear-drive performance flagship sedan in Cadillac's lineup. Offering more room than the ATS-V, the CTS-V is uncompromised in its performance capabilities but still offers luxurious amenities.

Overview

This was the original V in Cadillac's modern high-performance V-Series. The latest version of the CTS-V is powered by a supercharged liter V-8 creates hp and lb-ft that can launch this sedan from 0 to 60 mph in a Motor Trend tested seconds. An eight-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters mounted on the steering wheel allows for quick, easy shifting. Cadillac compares its performance algorithm shifting system to the same smooth dual-clutch performance found in more expensive European models. This performance car delivers 14/21 mpg city/highway using premium fuel.

Last year, Cadillac sold out of its CTS-V, so it's no wonder few changes were made to it. However, Cadillac did add the new rear camera mirror to the vehicle, after the government approved its use. Instead of a typical rearview mirror, the rear camera mirror can project a wider high-definition view of what's coming up behind the CTS-V. The interior remains the same, though there is an optional way adjustable Recaro front sport seats. There's also a speaker Bose Surround Sound system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well as a wireless charging station. Behind the steering wheel, there's a inch instrument panel cluster. The car also features an optional performance data and video recorder.

Safety

The CTS-V received a four-star overall safety rating (out of possible five stars) from the NHTSA. The car comes with standard dual front, front side, side curtain airbags as well as rear-side airbags and knee airbags for the driver and front passenger. It also includes a number of high-tech safety devices including lane keep assist, lane departure warning, lane change alert and forward collision warning.

What We Think

In our First Drive Review of the Cadillac CTS-V, we said, "Did Cadillac finally build the car with the correct ratio of elegance, power, and menace that the Germans refuse to? Just like the Corvette Z06 that donated its heart to the cause, the CTS-V has crushing performance, undeniable comfort, and a price that undercuts anything in its class by between $10,$15,"

In a comparison among the Cadillac CTS-V, Audi S6, and Lexus GS F, the CTS-V placed second, providing an engaging driving experience with great power and incredible control. The sharply styled CTS-V almost always has a little more power ready when needed. The car might not offer some of the luxury accoutrements as some of its European competition but it out-muscles them all day long.

Cool Fact

The CTS-V's forged inch wheels can be ordered in three different finishes.

  • The CT5-V Blackwing will be the new top dog of Cadillac performance sedans.
  • It will have a supercharged liter V-8 with around horsepower and—yes, really—a six-speed manual transmission.
  • The CT5-V Blackwing should arrive later this year with a starting price around $85,

Now this is a little confusing, but we'll try to keep it simple. Please send your complaints to Cadillac if this all seems a bit, well, confusing. The CTS is dead, replaced by the CT5. That's step one. The next thing to swallow is that the performance-oriented CT5-V is not the new CTS-V, it's the successor to the CTS Vsport. Still with us? Here's the payoff. The next legit V will be known as the CT5-V Blackwing. You may know the Blackwing as an engine. That's correct, it is an engine, but it's now also the name of the full-power V-series vehicles. Here's the final bit to understand—just because a Cadillac is called a Blackwing, doesn't mean it'll have the Blackwing V Look, we warned you this wasn't simple or clear.

What is clear is that the CT5-V Blackwing promises be one of the hottest and most track-ready sports sedans on the market. There will also be a CT4-V Blackwing, which we expect to have a turbocharged V Cadillac hopes the CT5-V Blackwing will make a name for itself competing against the the most extreme AMG, M-division, and Audi RS models like the Mercedes-AMG E63 S, the BMW M5, and Audi's RS6 and RS7. Other competitors will include the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio, Porsche's Panamera Turbo S, and even Dodge's Charger SRT Hellcat. Price-wise, the Cadillac will undercut its German competition with a starting price around $85,

To make sure the Blackwing version of the CT5 is up for the fight, Cadillac will fit an updated version of the CTS-V's liter supercharged V-8, not the hp twin-turbo liter Blackwing V We expect that engine to make horsepower and it will be available with a speed automatic or a six-speed manual. Here's a sentence we thought we'd never write: the Cadillac will be the only vehicle in its class with a manual. The availability of a three-pedal version not only warms our hearts, but it will also probably be more involving, engaging, and fun than the German competition. Fun counts.

Cadillac

Underpinning this most extreme version of the CT5 will be the latest generation of Cadillac/GM's Alpha platform. Despite some of the most serious competition offering all-wheel drive, all signs point to the Cadillac remaining rear-drive.

While we're a little concerned that the new Blackwing might not handle as well as its predecessor, recent exposure to the non-Blackwing, hp CT5-V gives us hope that Cadillac still knows how to tune a performance car. We look forward to finding out for ourselves and hope to drive the new Blackwing sedan by the end of the year.

As we can see, prices for a used Cadillac CTS-V range between $75, and $90,, depending on mileage. Meanwhile, prices for a used Cadillac CT6-V range between $74, and $90,, also depending on mileage.

This should be particularly interesting for anyone considering to purchase one of the two performance luxury sedans. That&#;s because, despite the similarity in pricing, these two models are also quite different. The primary difference is the way in which both four-doors achieve their impressive performance: the third-gen CTS-V makes use of a supercharged L Small Block overhead valve / push-rod V8 (production code LT4) good for horsepower and pound-feet of torque. By comparison, the CT6-V is powered by a much more modern twin-turbo dual overhead cam (DOHC) V8 codenamed Blackwing (production code LTA), making horsepower and pound-feet of torque.

Shifting duty in the CTS-V is done by an 8-speed automatic driving only the rear wheels, while the CT6-V uses a more advanced ten-speed automatic sending power to all four wheels by way of an all-wheel-drive system.

Another key difference is that the CT6-V is also significantly larger, with a wheelbase measuring in at inches on to an overall length of inches, as compared to the inch wheelbase and inch overall length of the CTS-V.

The CT6-V is also significantly newer than the CTS-V, going into production for the model year compared to the model year for the third-gen CTS-V. Finally, the CT6 offers cutting-edge technology not available in the CTS, such as Super Cruise, Cadillac’s semi-autonomous drive system.

Nevertheless, Cadillac Society analysis reveals that pricing for these two models is surprisingly close on the used car market &#; for now, at least.
