[ORIGIN] Issues with installing and updating Origin and Origin Games

Problem

Some system currently have issues updating and installing Origin itself as well as downloading patches of Origin games.

  • Cour download has been paused. Origin needs to download files and is waiting for permission.
  • Error Codes 9:0: Whoops – an installer encountered an error

Cause

It looks like that the Origin Windows services “Origin Client Service” and “Origin Web Helper Service” are unable to give the correct permissions to the program. Without those services, the program would show a UAC prompt which doesn’t appear if the services are active.

Solution

Workaround that currently works

  • Press the windows key
  • Type: Services
  • Click in the search results on Services
  • Search for Origin Client Service in the list.
  • Right-click on Origin Client Service.
  • Click on Properties
  • Choose Disabled under Startup type.
  • Click on Stop to stop the service.
  • Click on Apply
  • Repeat for  Origin Web Helper Service
  • Reboot your PC.

Alternatives:

  • Press Windows+R
  • Type msconfig in the appearing window and press ENTER.
  • Change to the tab Services
  • Check: Hide all Microsoft services
  • Search for Origin Client Service in the list and remove the check mark to deactivate.
  • Repeat for Origin Web Helper Service
  • Click on OK
  • Reboot your PC.

For Error Codes 9:0

  • Close down Origin
  • Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin (folder may differ depending on your installation) and delete the file libeay32.dll
  • Reboot your PC
  • If you get a message that you can’t delete libeay32.dll because Origin Web Helper Service is running, deactivate the service as described above, reboot your PC and try again.

How To Solve Origin Keeps Crashing Issue?

If you enjoy playing Assassin’s Creed Origin but are facing issues while playing, then they can certainly ruin your experience and instead give you a troublesome feeling. There have been reports on many forums about Origin keeps crashing on startup and other issues. There are a few common troubleshooting steps that can fix issues with Assassin’s Creed. You need not follow all these steps and can try each one until your issue resolves:

Fix 1: Clear The Cache Files

The cache files are temporary files stored to help play the game and are often repeatedly replaced by a newer version of files.  If the origin keeps crashing on startup, then clearing the existing cache files will prove useful. This will also boost PC speed. To delete the cache files, follow these steps:

Step 1: Close the game and exit out of the application.

Step 2: Press the Windows Key + R to open the Run dialog box and type %ProgramData% and press Enter.

Step 3: A window will open with multiple folders where you have to choose and double click on the Origin folder.

Step 4: This will open the Origins Folder, where you will have to delete all files and folders except the LocalContent folder.

Step 5: Next, press the Windows Key and R again, type %AppData% and press Enter.

Step 6: Delete the Origin Folder in this folder.

Step 7: Now, locate the AppData in the address bar and click on it once.

Step 8: You will now see a list of a few folders. Select Local and open it.

Step 9: Delete the entire Origins folder in the Local folder.

Step 10: Restart the computer and then check if you are still facing the same issues while playing Origin.

Fix 2: Run Origin In Administrator Mode

If the Cache clearing trick did not work for you, you could try running it as an administrator. This ensures that a specific program that is allowed to run in admin mode has more privileges to use system resources than others and requires less access permission. To run Origins in administrator mode and resolve Origins keeps crashing issue, follow these steps:

Step 1:Right-click on the shortcut of the Origin game and choose “ Run as Administrator.”

origin keeps crashing on startup run as adminstrator

Step 2: Press “Yes” on any of the prompts that appear.

Step 3: Try playing the game and check if the game crashes anytime soon.

Fix 3: Update Your Drivers

Drivers play an essential role in communicating between the software and hardware. A game like Assassins Creed Origins will require high-end graphics cards with updated drives to maximize its use. Graphics drivers are developed by the OEM manufacturers and available free of cost at their websites. There are three quick ways to download and update drivers:

  • Download from the OEM website and install them.
  • Use the Device Manager to search for the most updated drivers.
  • Install a Driver Manager application to resolve all driver related issues within a few clicks.

The manual method of checking for updated drivers is simple but not very effective:

Step 1: Press Windows + R to open the Run box and type “devmgmt.msc” and press OK.

Step 2: In the Device Manager window that opens, click on Display Adapters.

origin keeps crashing on startup update driver software

Step 3: Make a right-click on your display adapter, and from the context menu, choose “Update Driver.”

Windows will automatically search for the most updated driver within the trusted sites and update it for you. It will not scan third-party sites for updated versions of the drivers. To scan the entire web and find the best suitable and updated driver, you will have to use a third-party application like Smart Driver Care that updates your drivers, fixes corrupted drivers, and installs missing ones. To overcome these limitations, the automatic method of updating drivers is mainly preferred.

Automatic Update. This way comprises of using a third-party software to scan your PC and update all the drivers with the up-to-date version offered on the internet. It has no drawbacks and will check if all the drivers installed in the system even though they are working correctly and at the same time can download the latest driver from third party websites. This process has two major benefits:

All drivers updated. Even if a driver is working correctly, it must be updated to the newest version so that the operating system can make the best likely consumption of the resources.

Easy to use with a couple of clicks.A driver updater software is convenient to use as it scans and updates the drivers with a few clicks of the mouse. It does not necessitate the person to know the precise model number of the hardware installed and automatically recovers all details about the computer’s hardware configuration.

Although there are many software that falls into this category, I recommend using Smart Driver Care, which I have been using for quite a few years. Smart Driver Care is an intelligent driver updater software that I run every once a week, and it has kept my computer error-free ever since. You can download Smart Driver Care from the following link:

download

Step 1. Use the above button to download the Smart Driver Care on your system.

Step 2. Once the file download is completed, double click to begin the installation process. Click on The Next button, and this process will be completed automatically.

Step 3. Once the Smart Driver Care is installed, open the application and register it.

Step 4.The interface is very easy and simple to use. Just click on the Start Scan Now button and let the app scan your system for drivers.

Step 5. SDC will scan your computer for all driver issues, like missing, outdated and corrupted drivers and fix them with a single click on the Update now button.

Fix 4: Run The Windows Troubleshooter

Microsoft has inculcated troubleshooters by default that can scan and fix small issues within the Windows Operating System. One of the first ones to run is the Program CompatibilityTroubleshooter that can check if the program is compatible with the current version of Windows or not. Here are the steps to run this troubleshooter:

Step 1: Close the Origin game and, at the same time, close all the processes running with it.

Step 2: Open task Manager by making a right-click on any space on the taskbar and select “Task Manager” from the context menu. Now locate 3 processes and select them and finally click on End task. The processes to be closed are “Origin,” “OriginWebHelperservice,” and “OriginThinSetupInternal.”

Step 3: Next, navigate to the Origin install folder and right-click the file Origin and select Properties.

Step 4: Once the properties dialog box open, navigate to the Compatibility tab and click Run compatibility troubleshooter.

Step 5: Choose Try recommended settings.

Step 6: Next, click Test the program and check if the new settings fix the problem.

Step 7: Try loading the game and play a little while. If all seems well, then click Next and Select Yes, save these settings for this program.

Step 8: On the other hand, if these settings are adequate, click on select No, and try again using different settings. Then click on next and follow the on-screen instructions to run Program Compatibility Troubleshooter.

The issue of Origins keeps crashing on startup must now be resolved.

Fix 5: Windows Update

It is not clear how Windows updates can help with Origin Keeps crashing on startup issues. According to many forums on Origin crashes, one of the most frequently suggested resolutions is to update your Windows. To check if your Windows is updated, follow these steps:

Step 1: Press the Windows + I to open the Windows Settings and click on Update and Security.

Step 2: Click for the Button labeled as “Check for Updates,” and Windows will automatically contact the Microsoft Servers for any new updates. Windows will then automatically download and install updates on your system.

Once the Windows operating system is up to date, restart the computer and launch the Origins Game to check if the issue persists.

Fix 6: Change Your Antivirus Settings

Antivirus applications are evolving with time, and with the latest updates installed, they can even monitor programs that consume a lot of system resources. Assassins Creed Origins is designed to consume a lot of resources to run efficiently can fall under the radar of your antivirus as a potential suspect.

Fortunately, there is a way to add an exception to certain programs and applications and prevent them from being scanned by your antivirus. But do so only when the application you are exempting from the scan is from a trustable source.

origin keeps crashing on startup add exceptions

In the above image, an application by the name of Notepad++ has been added to the exception. The process is different for different antivirus apps. All you need to do is access the settings of your antivirus and locate the Exceptions section and add a file, folder, or an app. Similarly, just add Origins folder and Main exe file to exceptions. This will ensure that the antivirus will not interfere with Origins again and prevent them from crashing.

Fix 7: Perform A Clean Boot

If all the above fixes do not seem to work, then you can try to perform a clean boot if the Origin keeps crashing issue stills persists. The idea behind a clean boot is to disable all startup programs and check the Assassins Creed Origin’s performance. If the game works flawlessly, it must be one of the startup software responsible for this issue. You will have to disable all startup programs and enable them one by one to identify the culprit.

Step 1: Press Windows + R to open Run Dialog, type Msconfig in the text box, and press enter.

Step 2: A new window will open where you have to click on the Services tab and check Hide all Microsoft services and then click Disable all.

origin keeps crashing on startup services

Step 3: Next, select the Startup Tab and then click Open Task Manager.

Step 4: Once the task manager open, locate, and click on the Startup tab and start disabling all of them.

Step 5: Finally, click on the first window opened and click on OK.

Step 6:  Restart your computer for changes to take effect.

Fix 8: Reinstall Origin

The final step is to uninstall the game entirely and reinstall it. This means you would lose your game data, saves, settings, and configurations. Once the process is completed, do not use the previously downloaded installation file but rather download a new one instead of the website.

[Solved] Origin won’t open quickly & easily!

Origin won’t open on your PC? Don’t worry! You’re not alone. Many Origin users have reported this issue. But the good news is you can fix it. You should be able to fix the problem quite easily using one of the solutions we’ve listed below.

Try these fixes

Here’s a list of fixes that have resolved this problem for other Origin users. You don’t have to try them all. Just work your way through the list until you find the one that does the trick for you.

  1. Delete the cache files of Origin
  2. Update your graphics driver to the latest version
  3. Run the Program Compatibility Troubleshooter
  4. Add Origin as an exception to your third-party antivirus application
  5. Perform a clean boot
  6. Install the latest Windows updates
  7. Reinstall Origin

Fix 1: Delete the cache files of Origin

This issue may be caused by the cache files of Origin. Try deleting the cache files to see if you can fix this issue. Here’s how to do it:

1) Close Origin if it is running. Click Origin in the menu bar and then select Exit to close it.

2) On your keyboard, press the Windows logo key and R at the same time to open the Run dialog. Then type %ProgramData% and press Enter.

3) In the pop-up window, double-click the Origin folder to open it.

4) Delete all the files and folders in this folder except for the LocalContent folder.

5) On your keyboard, press the Windows logo key and R at the same time to open the Run dialog. Then type %AppData% and press Enter.

6) In the pop-up window, delete the Origin folder.

7) Click AppData in the address bar.

8) Double-click the Local folder to open it.

9) Delete the Origin folder in the Local folder.

10) Restart your PC and Double-click the shortcut of Origin on your desktop.

If Origin opens, you’ve resolved this issue. If not, try the next fix below to run the Program Compatibility Troubleshooter.

Fix 2: update your graphics driver to the latest version

This issue is probably caused by your outdated graphics driver. Updating your graphics driver to the latest version can make your game run smoother and prevents many issues or errors.

There are two ways you can get the right graphics driver: manually or automatically.

Option 1 – Manually – You’ll need some computer skills and patience to update your drivers this way, because you need to find exactly the right driver online, download it and install it step by step.

Or

Option 2 – Automatically (Recommended) – This is the quickest and easiest option. It’s all done with just a couple of mouse clicks – easy even if you’re a computer newbie.

Option 1 – Download and install the driver manually

Your graphics card manufacturer keeps updating drivers. To get them, you need to go to the official website of your graphics card manufacturer, find the drivers corresponding with your specific flavor of Windows version (for example, Windows 32 bit) and download the driver manually.

Once you’ve downloaded the correct drivers for your system, double-click on the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions to install the driver.

Option 2 – Automatically udpate your graphics driver

If you don’t have the time, patience or skills to update your driver manually, you can do it automatically with Driver Easy.

Driver Easy will automatically recognize your system and find the correct drivers for it. You don’t need to know exactly what system your computer is running, you don’t need to risk downloading and installing the wrong driver, and you don’t need to worry about making a mistake when installing.

You can update your drivers automatically with either the FREE or the Pro version of Driver Easy. But with the Pro version it takes just 2 clicks:

1) Download and install Driver Easy.

2) Run Driver Easy and click Scan Now. Driver Easy will then scan your computer and detect any problem drivers.

Driver Easy Scan Screen

3) Click Update next to your graphics card to automatically download the correct version of its driver, then you can install it manually. Or click Update All to automatically download and install the correct version of all the drivers that are missing or out of date on your system (This requires the Pro version – you’ll be prompted to upgrade when you click Update All. You get full support and a 30-day money back guarantee).

The Pro version of Driver Easy comes with full technical support.
If you need assistance, please contact Driver Easy’s support team at [email protected].

Fix 3: Run the Program Compatibility Troubleshooter

This issue may occur if Origin is not compatible for your current Windows operating system. If you’re net sure, run the Program Compatibility Troubleshooter. The Program Compatibility Troubleshooter can check whether that program is compatible for your current Windows operating system or not. Just follow the steps below to run the Program Compatibility Troubleshooter:

1) Right-click the shortcut to Origin on your desktop and select Properties.

2) Click the Compatibility tab and click Run compatibility troubleshooter.

3) Click Try recommended settings to test-run program using recommended compatibility settings. Follow the on-screen instructions to see whether this troubleshooting option works or not.

4) If it still doesn’t work, then run the Program Compatibility Troubleshooter again and select the second option to choose compatibility settings based on problems you notice.

5) If the problem persists, adjust the following settings manually and select OK when you’re done.

  • Compatibility mode: If Origin won’t open on your current Windows system, click the drop-down list to select a previous version of Windows system to test-run it.
  • Disable fullscreen optimizations: Some games on Origin are particularly affected by the low FPS issue, and some of them even crash when the player enable fullscreen optimizations. Just disable it to see whether Origin will open or not.
  • Run this program as an administrator: If Origin is not given administrator privileges, it may not run properly. Try this setting to give the program the administrator privileges.

If this fix works, your Origin will open when you double-click its shortcut. If not, try the next fix, below.

Fix 4: Add Origin as an exception to your third-party antivirus application

This issue may also be caused by your third-party antivirus application. Since the third-party antivirus application hooks very deep into your system, it may interfere with Origin.

Since Origin consumes a lot of memory and CPU usage when you’re playing a game, many third-party antivirus application may regard it as a potential threat and Origin may not run as expected. You can try adding Origin as an exception to your third-party antivirus application

Please consult your antivirus documentation for instructions if you don’t know how to do it.

If this fix still doesn’t work for you, try the next fix below to perform a clean boot.

Fix 5: Perform a clean boot

You may need to perform a clean boot if this issue persists. The clean boot is a troubleshooting technique that allows you to manually disable startups and services so that you can find out the problematic software. Once you find it out, just uninstall it, and then the this issue will be solved. Here’s how to do it:

1) On your keyboard, press theWindows logo key and R at the same time to open the Run Dialog. Type msconfig and press Enter to open the System Configuration window.

2) Select the Services tab, check Hide all Microsoft services and then click Disable all.

3) Select the Startup tab and click Open Task Manager.

4) On the Startup tab in Task Manager, for each startup item, select the item and then click Disabled.

5) Go back to the System Configuration window and click OK.

6) Click Restart to restart your PC.

Run Origin and check whether the problem reappears when your PC restarts. If not, you need to open the System Configuration window again to enable services and applications one by one until you find the problematic software. After enabling each service, you need to restart your PC to apply the changes.

Once you find out the problematic software, you need to uninstall it in order to resolve this issue. If this fix failed to resolve this problem, try the next fix, below.

Fix 6: Install the latest Windows updates

Sometimes this issue may occur if you didn’t install the latest Windows updates on your PC. Try performing Windows Update and this issue may get resolved. Here is how to do it:

1) On your keyboard, press the Windows logo key and type update. In the list of results, click Check for updates to open Windows Update window.

2) Click Check for updates to update your Windows system.

3) Restart your PC when the Windows update process completed.

If this fix works, Origin will open when you double-click its shortcut on the desktop. If not, try the next fix to reinstall Origin.

Fix 7: Reinstall Origin

If all the fixes above still don’t work, it’s time to uninstall Origin and reinstall it.

1) Uninstall Origin.

This process will remove Origin and any installed game content from your machine.

i. On your keyboard, press the Windows logo key and R at the same time to open the Run dialog. Then type control and press Enter to open Control Panel.

ii. View Control Panel by Category, and then click Uninstall a program.

iii. Double-click Origin to uninstall it.

iv. Restart your Windows system when it is completed.
